Our second show of the 2015 DownStreet Art season opened yesterday! We had a great turn out and a great time at the July DownStreet Art celebration. The artists,Erin Malkowski, Tara O’Brien, Erin Paulson, and Charissa Schulze, were inspired by a 1763 mathematics manuscript describing instructions for setting up a sundial, four artists respond to the drawing of the sundial. Each works with their own themes and interests to comment on time specifically in relation to the cosmos, family, documentation and historical vs. contemporary technology. It was great having them here this week to install their work and to celebrate the opening with them! Despite some technical difficulties, Jonas was able to print our monthly mantra card with the uplifting quote:
“Serene I stand among the flowers
And only count life’s sunny hours
To me dark days do not exist,
I’m a brazen faced old optimist”
by Anthony Doerr. A big thank you goes out to MCLA, the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, DownStreet Art and everyone who worked so hard to make DownStreet Art happen!
