Just down the road from us, at the Concourse/Discourse Gallery, is an exhibition featuring the art of book artist Nava Atlas, whose work includes limited editions, altered books, and text-driven objects.
“Combining elements of my own writing with appropriated text and images, the work in this exhibit looks at how language and media perpetuate cultural norms and stereotypes. Explorations of the inner world and emotional self – especially aspects that tie in with gender roles – often emerge with a liberal dose of humor and irony. The resulting work is always text-driven and takes the form of altered books, small installations, limited edition or unique artist’s books, and other readable objects.”
Nava will be giving an artist talk at the Concourse/Discourse Gallery on the next DownStreet Art Thursday, one week from today, on July 31st. She will be speaking from 5:30 – 6:00 PM, so stop by before our opening that evening!
