PRESS is delighted to celebrate the release of the 2016 annual Monthly Mantra calendar at a preview party in the new letterpress space on MCLA’s campus, in Room 303 Bowman Hall, on Wednesday December 2 from 5-7 pm. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
This year’s calendar is the result of collaboration with MCLA Professor Frances Jones-Sneed’s class Women, Race and Society. In creating the calendar, students in the class along with Professor Jones-Sneed and PRESS founder Melanie Mowinski responded to a variety of readings and writings centered around the Black Lives Matter movement by creating their own calendars made up of quotes and images from notable figures from the Civil Rights Movement, Black Lives Matter movement and other movements centered around equality and justice. The student creations directly inspired and informed the quotes and designs for this year’s PRESS Monthly Mantra calendar.
In addition to the calendar preview, PRESS will be ushering in its next chapter with a welcome party for the long awaited installation of the PRESS Vandercook printing press into Bowman Hall. Remarks will be held at 5:30 pm.
The official release of the PRESS calendar will be at the MCLA Gallery 51 Spectacle 99 show opening on Thursday, December 3 from 5-7 pm.
Hope to see you there!
