We have started an employee book club here at PRESS! The first book we read was The Secret History by Donna Tartt. To practice our typesetting and printing skills, we each chose a word to describe the book and set on the press bed. Melanie chose SPOILED, Nicole chose FOREIGN, and Jonas chose a Greek word, THANATOS (sounds like an intriguing book, no?). This may sound fairly simple, but our challenge was to lay out the letters in such a way that the single page could be folded into an 8-page booklet with one or two letters on each page. No easy task! It involved a lot of sketching, planning, and measuring. We each made five editions of booklets with our own word, and together we made ten editions that had all of our words overlapping each other.
