PRESS invites you to meet our first EVER artist-in-residence, Alke Groppel-Wegener. Preview her exhibit and join us for cake and conversation SATURDAY, MAY 24TH at 4 pm. Alke is based at Staffordshire University in the UK and visited MCLA in January and May. Her visit was made possible through the generosity of the Hardman Family Endowment.
What’s Your Mantra? An exploration of academic and creative identities, the title of Alke’s exhibit uses the tradition of mantra cards established at PRESS, Alke collected mantras from PRESS visitors as well as students and faculty and set a selection of these in letterpress. She led a number of workshops to help faculty and students explore the relationships between our multiple roles as artists, administrators and academics and to make connections between academic and creative practice through creative exercises.
Her exhibit highlights how the mantras we find for ourselves build the identities of students, faculty and artists.
